Samsung Galaxy S ll for T-Mobile

Samsung is going big with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S II on 3 major carriers in the USA. Each carrier got their own flavor of the device with slight changes here and there. The release of the Galaxy S II line to the United States is months behind when compared to the rest of the world. This great device is needed to push competition here in the States. Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T are the carriers that have them available but each has their differences as stated before to differentiate themselves from the rest. Let us see what the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II (SGSII) offers compared to the others.

The form factor throughout is a candy bar with touchscreen which everyone expects. However, there are subtle changes when it comes to screen size & design. Some major specifications to keep in mind about T-Mobile’s SGSII is the fact that it has a 4.52″ Super AMOLED + screen which is the same as the Sprint variant & larger than the AT&T variant. The screen in all three devices has the same resolution. The screen looks gorgeous with vibrant colors and great clarity. As a HTC Sensation user, it hurts me to say but it puts the qHD to shame.

Everyone enjoys speed and memory and this SGSII has both. Unlike the other SGSII devices T-Mobile’s variant has a 1.5GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S3 processor while the other two use a 1.2GHz Dual Core Samsung Exnyos C210. Even with all the bloat ware this SGSII comes with due to T-Mobile it is still very fast and smooth. With different processors with will cause some problem in the future for those that are looking to root and run custom roms. Samsung has made it easier for developers with their announcement of releasing the source code (Kernel) for the SGSII for T-Mobile. As far as RAM and storage is, concerned this device has 16GB of internal storage with a micro-SD card slot of up to 32GB & 1GB of RAM, which is another reason this device runs so smooth.

All devices are running a form of Gingerbread with T-Mobile specifically running Android 2.3.5. This is a big deal since we hope to see timely updates to Android 2.3.7 but more importantly Ice Cream Sandwich. First thing first, let us get Android 2.3.7. This update is huge for NFC compatible devices since it helps support Google Wallet. Great news is that the T-Mobile SGSII is the one device of its kind to support NFC. Like everything else, these devices come with a great pair of cameras. The front facing camera is 2MP, which most importantly provides better quality. The rear camera is where it is at with an 8MP capable of 1080p HD recording. These videos and pictures look amazing. In addition, the stock camera application is a great revamp from Samsung, which creates a great user experience.

This device looks amazing and performance is top notch. Overall, my favorite features of the device are the screen & camera experience. Many others might not be fond of the screen size so make sure you test out before purchasing. It does not bother me since I have big hands. Major flaws have to be the amount of bloat ware on the device. There is no reason why this device should have 40+ apps pre-installed with 75% of them you will not even use.
