Android Wanted

Wanted: Multitasking and Battery Life

Print Friendly

Maybe I should clarify. From day one, Android has proven itself to be up to the challenge of giving users near limitless capabilities. Its only downfalls are more often than not, attributed to the networks on which they are tasked to run. In the case of my poor HTC Incredible, this means that because it’s running on Verizon’s GSM network, it is incapable of using data and making calls simultaneously. Ordinarily this is not that big of an issue as most things can wait. Unfortunately the few times that it is, are the times that you really just need it to work.

Speaking of needing things; how about a battery that can last longer than just a few hours? If you’re like me, your Android device is a literal extension of yourself. Sometimes, as my only connection to anywhere I can’t be, the best thing it can be is working. Even with an extended battery, which has set me back about $110, the best I can get is about four hours of use. Which is not bad, as a typical workday lasts about nine hours during which there is a power source nearby. Not every day is a workday though and even workaholics like myself need a break some times. The troublesome part is remembering to bring a charger everywhere I go.

While I will be sad to see my HTC Incredible go, I’m definitely looking forward to an early upgrade coming up in January. I’ll be sure to avoid at least the multitasking issue by switching to a 4G device. I can only hope that by the time I get my upgrade I’ve learned the tricks to conserving battery life or I’ll foot the bill for another extended battery.
