Nvidia started their Press Conference very slow. So slow that I thought it was going to be a disaster. However, they turned it around about half way through with some pretty big announcements that include multiplayer gaming on Tegra 3 (Shadowgun) devices, SplashTop THD (Skyrim Demo on Tablet), and the 7″ Asus Tegra 3 “unicorn” tablet. Nvidia and Asus did not fail to impress.
Asus 7″ “Terga 3″ for $250:
The announcement of this tablet really woke everyone up in the room. It brings great specs and a very affordable price to consumers. This tablet has the potential to take Amazon’s Kindle Fire & B&N Nook Tablet head on at the same price point. When I saw the Asus demo tablet running the Tegra 3 it just blew the other tablets out the water. This device is still in its early stages of development. As such, no real specs have been released except for the inclusion of Terga 3 and we have been assured that it will contain two cameras. Think of this device as the “mini-me” of the Asus Transformer Prime. Personally, I am a HUGE fan of 7″ tablets and I feel this kind of tablet can make a big splash in the tablet market.
Multiplayer Gaming on Tegra 3:
Finally multipler gaming (first person shooter through Shadowgun) is coming to Android. This is opening up huge doors for the Android ecosystem. Once consumers get their hands on Tegra 3 devices, it just a matter of time before developers will create more multiplayer games we can all enjoy. Right now, we share our scores over social networks in attempt to compete with our friends. With this device we will have full live interaction which is the way multiplayer games should be played.
SplashTop THD Demo:
SplashTop is an application that allows users to connect and control their personal PC through their Tegra 3 tablet. These types of applications are not new. However, this one is unique since it brings a true HD quality user experience to you tablet with equally as impressive performance. As a demo, they opened up iTunes (played a song), opened up Facebook, and played a video all at the same time. When you actually think how this is being done it is just amazing. So much processing and compression of data is happening but the quality and speed do not suffer. Simply amazing that this is where tablets are heading in such a small amount of time. The best demonstration was Skyrim being played on the Asus Transformer Prime over SplashTop with no perceived lag.
